Gaba Wright is an Australian composer submerged in the depths of musical waters. Having begun songwriting, composition, and arrangement from an early age, Gaba is continuing to develop and expand his sound into a wide pool of varying projects, live ensembles, and sonic mediums.

Gaba’s sound is an expansive, multi-layered combination of influences and soundscapes. Ranging from the dramatic layering of the operatic to the stripped exposure of minimalism, Gaba aims to paint a sonic world full of highs and lows. Having participated in numerous projects, compositions, and ensembles, he is equally as comfortable writing for a contemporary rock band as he is for classical chamber orchestra. Gaba draws inspiration from a plethora of influences and composers, from Puccini to Brandon Flowers to Alexandre Desplat.

Initially a songwriter, Gaba has written and released a debut album and a handful of singles. Debut solo endeavor Afterhours (2019) began his journey and was met with success; spawning interviews with Happy Mag, Girl At the Rock Show, and multiple radio appearances. Gaba has also recently released a new single, Juniper, promoting a new album set to be released in 2023. Gaba has also been branching out into the fields of TV, film, and advertising; working with sync-licensing company Primerchord Productions, composing for an array of NSW Health promotional videos (2022), working with MADBS Composing Palace on arrangments for performances at the State Theatre (2021), writing music for the University of Sydney’s advertising campaign (2021), and composing & conducting music for Shakespeare’s The Tempest for International Grammar School’s original production (2018). He has also received accolades for his chamber compositions Night Waves and Why Do I Get Up? (2017), and works for ensemble players at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (Gone, Gone Again, [2018], Weekdays [2020], and Nightbus to Nowhere [2021]).

Gaba Wright is also a pianist/keyboardist, saxophonist, vocalist and percussionist. He is currently studying guitar, electric bass, and piano accordion with the goal of becoming a self-sufficient, autonomous musician able both to record and/or perform all elements of his songs and productions. Hoping to be known for consistency and reliability, Gaba is focused on maintaining chameleonic diversity while also establishing a recognizable, individual sound.

In 2021, Gaba graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Creative Industries. He has recently composed a large-scale chamber composition named INNERMIND, featuring SATB voices and keyboard/loopstation. He has also recently re-scored Seth Boyden’s renowned animation An Object At Rest, as well as the Blender Foundation’s Elephant’s Dream and Cosmos Laundromat. Furthermore, Gaba has recently written music for the Melbourne-based game development team The Skeleton Gang’s new project, Lair of the Narcomancer. Gaba’s original music from Afterhours has recently been set to picture in Jaimie Conlon’s film Jellybean.

Gaba’s current dream is to write and produce a musical, as well as to expand further into creative-media realms such as television and film. Overall, Gaba Wright is a strong up-and-coming composer willing to and capable of writing music for the expansive, ever-changing ocean of the music industry - and excited to dip as many toes in the water as possible.
